The Song Dynasty ended in China as did the Manchu Qing Dynasty. 200 members of the Peking Imperial Family and courtiers committed mass suicide. Frank Nitti also committed suicide today. So did the doomsday cult in Uganda – over a thousand of them! The first bank robbery in the US occurred today in New York. Maori wars ended in New Zealand, Swallows first recorded return to Capistrano. The first Test Match was won by Australia. The first Academy Awards were broadcast on TV. Gambling was legalized in Nevada. Celebrating birthdays: Bruce Willis, Glenn Close, Sirhan Sirhan, Nikolay Gogol, Sir Richard Burton and Philip Roth.
