On this day in history
The world's first striptease was performed at the Moulin Rouge in Paris today in 1893 by Mlle Mona who was thrown into jail despite protests from avid fans. In aviation the first European commercial plane, the Goliath, flew from Paris to London round trip. On the same day in 1963 and 1969 respectively, Boeing's 727 and 747 flew for the first time. The Roman Republic was proclaimed today. Verdi's third and last opera "Falstaff" premiered in Milan. The first TV signals passed across the Atlantic by John Logie Baird from London to New York. The Beatles made their TV debut on the Ed Sullivan Show but you could hardly hear 'em. Born today: Mrs. Patrick Campbell, Carmen Miranda, Alice Walker, Carole King and Mia Farrow. Died: Sophie Tucker. |
